Only two days left for this year’s solo trip to Hokkaido, leaving tomorrow.
I was going to eat Hakodate’s kaisendon, the essence of a gourmet trip! I departed from Noboribetsu.
For a toilet break, I stopped at Aputa, a roadside station near Lake Doya.
It is famous for the curry with scallops and sea urchin bowl.
However, I was planning to have a seafood bowl at Hakodate morning market for lunch, so I steeled myself and left the station.
As I got onto Route 5, the nasty rain started up again! Whew!
It was almost noon and my stomach was growling, so I stopped by “Shellpool Sugawara,” a store that sells homemade bread.
It was lunchtime and the place was bustling with locals.
It was very popular! But I was even more surprised when I went inside!
It is a family-run store.
The manager’s son passionately told us that he wanted to make “bread that can’t be found anywhere else.”
Beside him, I saw a large number of figurines.
I was surprised to see them!
Elementary school students have started to stop by to see the figures, so they are doing things like Japanese cheep candies store as well.
I bought two kinds of bread: the most popular local “An Donut” and the odd bread pictured above, “Manju bread with Manju in it”.
I ate them on a bench.
I am full. What to do? Kaisendon!
As I was heading south on Route 5 to Hakodate, I wondered what it was!
A cool building appeared.
The name “Michi no Eki Nanairo Nanae” is also unusual.
This is the birthplace of Baron potatoes. Is this really a roadside station?
It’s too cool, isn’t it?
Hakodate morning market closes after 3 pm.
I knew this, but I stopped by too much places and arrived five minutes too late.
I knew it was too late. Aaaaah! Oh, no! I can’t eat Kaisendon!
I searched the Internet for a restaurant that was still open and somehow to find one.
“Douge Shokudo” located in Doburi Yokocho.
They are open until 9:00 p.m! Thank goodness!
OH! I did it! Kaisendon with sea urchin, salmon roe, crab and scallops!
I love them all!
Thanks for the meal, I finished it in 5 minutes!
I can’t complain about the freshness of all the ingredients! I’m so glad to be alive!
Thank you “Douge Shokudo”.
I had fluffy pancakes from “Cafe Gram” for dessert.
It love it that’s hot off the stove, and the fluffy feeling that disappears the moment I put it in my mouth.
I was already full!
So, where am I staying today?
A hotel near Hakodate that I can get from now on.
Oh, I found it! “Green Pia Onuma.”
It’s a cheap and beautiful hotel.
I decided to return to Route 5 to go to “Green Pia Onuma”.
A magnificent large red pine tree, a rarity in Hokkaido.
A roadside tree of this scale is spectacular. It is a magnificent sight.
I heard it is called ” Red Pine Road”.
Tomorrow is the last day of the trip, and I will return from Otaru at 11:30 p.m. tomorrow.
